Idols have always been a source of understanding a State’s heritage and craftsmanship. The Idol wing, a subdivision of the Economic Offences Wing(EOW) is a department that has always strived to restore the richness of the artisanship of Tamil Nadu. Idol theft cases were investigated by a small team of officials in CB-CID till the year 1980. A sudden spike in the number of idol theft cases led to the bifurcation of the Idol Wing from the CB-CID in the year 2000.
